My Experience

My experience of this class has been good overall. I, at first, thought this would a blow-off class that would be easy and a good balance to my other hard class. But, this class has really made me work, but not exactly the way a math or an english class would. Also, after I quit orchestra I felt the need to continue art so I thought this class would be perfect. It's made me see things differently. when I see something that looks nice outside, like a flower or such, almost reflexively I start to think of how good a picture that would be. It's made me think more creatively and stretch my mind.

Light and Shadow

Summary
For this week, I decided to take photos of light and shadow. It was a fairly simple topic and easy to capture. Although, the light and shadows were a bit hard to capture at times with regular settings and I had to change to macro settings.

What I Learned
I learned this week, that it may be a bit hard to get a good picture of light and shadows without setting your camera to the macro setting. But, even with that, it was a pretty easy subject to capture.

What I Learned
I learned, this week, that its hard to get something in focus for a good macro photo without getting it all blurry. But, when you do get it at the right moment it looks really good.

Visual Dictionary

Summary
For this assignment, we had to take one word and define it. We had to define it with words but also with pictures.

What I Learned
I learned that its hard to take a word and find the right pictures to fit that description and blend them together in the right way.

Visual Puns

Summary
For this assignment, we had to use a couple of small picture to make three picture puns. Then, we put them onto one big canvas.
What I Learned
I learned that its easy to make a simple piece of art with just a bit of creativity.

Black and White

Summary
This week, I decided to do black and white. The photos were taken with normal settings but I changed them in Photoshop.

Best Photo

Technical Data
ISO: 80
Aperture: f/4.5
Shutter Speed: 1/1000

What I Learned
I learned this week that its very easy to photoshop something and make it white. Plus, not everything makes for a good black and white photo. A flag has very distinct colors so it makes a good black and white photo, but some photos just look gray if you try to photoshop them and make them black and white.

Portrait

Summary
For this assignment, we had to take two photos of someone (or two different people) and in two different settings. One setting had to be a studio setting where we set up lights and a white background. The other one is where we use window light and a card to bounce the light off so the other side of the persons face isn't so dark.

Light Painting

Summary
This week, I decided to do light painting. When I saw the video in class I thought it would be hard to do as they did but it was, in fact, pretty easy. Although it was easy, it took a while to get one picture, let alone ten.

What I Learned
I learned that a lot of time goes into doing light painting. Plus, everything must be perfect (exposure triangle) or else the picture might come out too light or dark.

School Context

Summary
For this assignment, we had to take a part of your school that we see every single day and change it till its barely recognizable and fun looking. I changed my photo into a strange aquatic scenery.

Macro Assignment

Leaf
Up Close Colors
Comb

This week, I'm thinking of doing Macro.These photos above are good examples of how you can take everyday items (comb) and turn them into a good photo. And, you can be amazed by the most simplest of things like the leaf.

People

Summary
This week, I decided to take photos of people. I wanted to get the nature and personality of the person I was taking a photo of.

Best Photo

Technical Data
ISO: 160
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter Speed: 1/500

What I Learned
This week, I learned that its important to get the person at the right time so that you don't make the photo look like a portrait and you manage to get their personality in the photo.

Nature

Summary
For this week, I took pictures of nature. Fall in Michigan is very beautiful so I thought it would be perfect to take pictures of Michigan's fall beauty.

Best Photo

Technical Data
ISO:400
Aperture: f/4
Shutter speed: 1/250

What I Learned
I learned, this week, that you shouldn't take pictures outside if its overcast because then you'll have to make your ISO high and that will result in a lot of digital noise. ISO, I think, of the exposure triangle is the most dangerous and photographers should always be watching for.

This week I want to do landscape. These photos show that simplicity can be beautiful. Color can also enhance the look of nature in the photo, making the landscape come alive.

What I Learned
This photo shoot was a good and bad one for me. I thought I was easy enough since I had good options to chose from (colorful objects). It was also hard because I didn't have good lighting. Plus, I learned that having bad lighting can affect whether you have digital noise or not.

                                                                     After

What I learned
I learned from this assignment how to take a photo and change it to something completely new using Photoshop. I feel like I understand Photoshop more now. I learned how to tint the windshield and remove glare from the hood. I think removing the glare is a very important skill to know, so is being able to easily black out the background.

Motion

What I learned
Before now I had a hard time understanding how to use and change ISO, aperture, and shutter speed settings to work together to make one good photo with good exposure. I learned how get good exposure by changing around all those settings. Plus, I'm really starting to understand how aperture works since the numbers are all backwards and really confusing, now I feel like I understand it completely.

People Assignment

Woman
Bunch of People
Group

I am thinking of doing people for my first photo assignment. These photos encouraged me to really go after the subject of what the people are doing, or to get their personality into the photo and who they really are as a person.

Pop Art

This photo was done on Photoshop and its done by playing with the hue/saturation. It seems like a hard photo to do but its not. Also, it was fun to learn how to manipulate pictures like that, and to know how to change the colors to your liking for each block.

Composition Assignment

Assignment Description
For this assignment, we took pictures of eleven composition rules: framing, perspective, balance, color, space, symmetry, lines, pattern, texture, rule of thirds, and depth of field.

Photo Description
Lines = "Bleachers"
Texture = "Outside Brick Wall"
Pattern = "Inside Bricks"
Symmetry = "Road to Nowhere"
Depth of Field = "Lonely Leaf"
Rule of Thirds = "IDF"
Framing = "Red Car"
Space = "White Paper"
Balance = "Carpet"
Perspective = "Locker 1111"
Color = "Autumn Tree"

What I Learned

I learned from this assignment that there is more to a picture than meets the eye. I knew that having a good photo means setting it up but i never thought there were so many things a good photographer had to think about while taking a picture like having a straight picture. I also didn't know there were so many ways to enhance a photo by balancing it or, the opposite, creating space and filling the photo with the subject.
